Entertain Me Not!
My list of content is crazy. I've watched over 140 shows (and I'm juggling 10 more right now). I listen to 6 podcasts (with five episodes I’m halfway through). My book list for 2024 includes 15 books (and I’m in the middle of 2 of them). Movies? I've lost count, but I watch at least one movie a week. Yet, it still feels like I'm way behind. I love movies, shows, documentaries, books, podcasts, and all sorts of other content. They've all helped shape my personality. But no matter how much I consume, I feel like I'm lagging. I need to read this book, watch that movie, listen to that song, and what not! There is just not enough time.
Well, this is the age of content & Information overload! We're living in a time where there’s an endless supply of movies, shows, podcasts, articles, and videos demanding for our attention. It’s like being a kid in a candy store, except the candy never stops coming, and now you’ve got a stomachache.
There’s a podcast for every topic. It’s fantastic that we have all this variety, but who has the time to listen to them all? Even reading. With countless blogs, news sites, and books, my reading list grows faster than I can check items off. I remember when reading a book was a relaxing escape! Now it feels like a race against an ever-growing list of must-reads.
Content overload isn’t just about having too much to choose from; it’s also about the pressure to keep up. There’s FOMO. And these are things I actually am interested in and I do like to watch. I think of it as an art form.(Always wanted to be a Filmmaker!) It’s not a burden, but it is lately feeling like one. Plus there are other Interests/Hobbies that I have and 24 hours just doesn't feel like enough for all this!
I guess, The trick is figuring out how to enjoy this feast of entertainment without feeling like I am drowning in it. So next time, I find myself stuck in an endless scroll, I will remember—it’s okay to step back, take a break, and maybe just enjoy a little less. Entertain Me Not!
